STARS IN THE DEEPEST NIGHT

 

When life held

no light or texture,

and I was burdened down

by grief,

 

when an aching,

purple brusing,

carried pain

without relief,

 

when descent

seemed most persuasive,

when the will for life

seemed lost,

 

when the dark

was most pervasive,

midst the numbing

pain of loss,

 

came the touches

from my daughter,

came the knowledge

of her life,

 

came the loved ones

to sustain me,

came words wondrous,

burning bright,

 

sparks to light

the path before me

helping warm

the coldest night.
